Featured Professors #
Professor Erdem has been a part of the NYU Stern since 2006. She is currently a professor of Business and professor of Marketing as well as the Chair of the Marketing Department. Her research areas are in the field of advertising, brand management and equity, consumer choice, customer relationship management, decision-making, and econometric modeling and pricing. She is well published, having written numerous papers in relevent journals and has been the recipient of two National Science Foundation Grants. She has an extensive academic background having received her B.A. in Economics from Bogazici University, her M.A. and A.B.D. in Economics from University of Alberta, and her PhD in Business Administration from the University of Alberta. Some of her publications include ‘Modeling the Intra-Household Behavioural Interaction’ published in the Journal of Marketing Research (2010) and ‘Learning Models: An Assessment of Progress, Challenges and New Developments’ in Marketing Science (2013) among others.
Stephen C. Figlewski
Professor Figlewski joined NYU Stern in 1976. He is currently Profesor Emeritus of Finance and has a history teaching undergraduate, MBA and PhD sutdents. He is well published having written numerous books and journal articles. While working at Stern he also was Vice President at teh First Boston Corporation, where he was responsible for equity derivatives research. His current research interests include Options, Futures, and All Other Derivatives and Information and Financial Markets. He received his B.A. in economics from Princeton University and a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His published books titles are: Risk Management: The State of the Art, Financial Options: From theory to practice, and Hedging with Financial Futures for Institutional Investory: From Theory to Practice.

MBA Program Brief Overview #
The full-time MBA program at NYU Stern is 2-years in length and requires 60 credits to finish with a strong focus on flexibility. Students studying in New York City will be able to use the theoretical knowledge gained during their studies to help solve real world problems. Students part of the program are all willing to put their intellecutal minds to use in order to ‘master chane’ and ‘Spark transformation’. NYU Stern emphases the ability for their students to not only understanding change, but to also be at the forefront of change.
Year One Description #
During their first year at NYU Stern, full-time MBA students have only 2 required courses to take. Because of their emphasis on flexibility, students are allowed to choose 5 additional core classes out of a list of 8:
Business Analytics, Firms & Markets, Foundations of Finance, The Global Economy, Leadership in Organizations, Marketing, Operations Management, Strategy.
Summer internships after the first year are also common for Sternies. With Stern’s broad campus recruiting program, students who wish to participate in a summer internship are often able to find an opportunity to do just that.

Year Two Description #
During their second year, students at NYU Stern can specialize in up to 3 different areas chosen from an extensive list. Additionally, they have a choice of electives from over 200 to choose from. Students can choose to take classes outside of the Stern School of Business, and can take up to 25% of their courses from other NYU graduation programs. Students may also participate in study abroad and exchange programs where they can study at various universities around the globe.

Studio – NYU Stern has created an innovative, co-curricular program meant to support MBA students as they develop in understanding, impacting, and driving change. Curriculum is designed around a Dare it. Dream it. Drive it. type of programing.
Dare it – The Dare it curriculum integrates methods meant to devlop leadership skills amongst students.
Dream it – Stern’s Dream it curriculum revolves around the idea that innovative ideas can help solve real problems. From Stern Solutions to Case Competitions, students can participate in programing meant to help them develop their resiliency in the face of change.
Drive it – In order to prepare for the future, students need to understand that change requires innovation. Labs, bootcamps, and entrepreneurial challenges have all been designed in order to develop the innovative mentality of students.
Global Programs – Stern knows that successful Students graduate with a global mindset. Because of this, Stern offers various Global programing to students to take advantage of:
DBi – The Doing Business in … Program takes place between January and May and take place in either one or two-week stints. These are intensive courses which give students an opportunity to participate in corporate visits, speakers, and cultural visits around the globe. Thus program takes students to Central America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia & Pacific
Global Courses – Courses are offered to students that culminate in a trip for all participants. Such courses include ‘The Craft & Commerce of Cinema’ where students take a trip to the Cannes Film Festival at the end of the semester or ‘Operations: Panama Canal’ where students at the end of the course take a trip to Panama.
Study Abroad Semester Exchange Program – For students who wish to have a more extended global experience, Stern offers study abroad programs. These programs take place during the fall or spring and are located in over 29 different countries and at one of Stern’s exchange partner universities.
Student Life #
There are over 40 different student led clubs which the Stern community offers its students. Whether students are interested in joining professional clubs, such as the Emerging Markets Association (EMA) or the Business Analytics Club (BAC), or they have special interests, such as arts, adventure, wine, or football, Stern’s student run clubs have it all! On top of that, Stern’s unique location in the heart of New York City means that students have access to a never ending array of cultural and professional opporutunities right at their fingertips!
Applicant Requirements #
Applicants interested in an NYU Stern MBA program must select which area of program they are interested in (Full-time MBA Program, Fashion & Luxury MBA Program, Tech MBA Program). Applicants must have an undergraduate degree and a master of the english language in order to apply. The admissions committee evaluates applicants across three areas:

- Personal Characteristics
Applicants must hold a four-year bachelor’s degree when applying for an NYU Stern MBA program. Transcripts from all attended institutions must be submitted. Unofficial transcripts can be uploaded as a scanned copy or as self-reported. Once an offer admission has been extended, students are to submit an official copy of their transcripts.
NYU Stern accepts standardized test scores from teh Executive Assessment Test, MCAT, LSAT, and DAT as well as the GMAT and GRE. There is no minimum standardized test score required for application.
The Essays for Stern are designed to show the admissions committee the applicant’s experiences, goals and thought processes. There are two required essays and 1 optional essay.
Essay Question 1
– What are your short and long-term career goals
– How will the MBA help you achieve them.
500 word max.
Essay Question 2
Personal Expression – This essay is meant for students to describe themselves to the admissions committee and future classmates by submitting 6 images. Each image should be submitted with a description.
Additional Information: 250 word max. Meant to help the admissions committee understand reasons for resume gaps and other hardships.
Instead of recommendations, Stern required two EQ Endorsements. On Endorser must be the applicant’s current supervisor and the second one from an individual who knows the applicant personally. Endorsers rate applicants on their abilities and answer the following 5 questions:
Please provide a brief description of your interaction with the applicant and, if applicable, the applicant’s role in your organization.
How does the applicant’s performance compare to that of other well-qualified individuals in similar roles (if applicable)? Please provide specific examples. (E.g. what are the applicant’s principal strengths?)
Describe the most important piece of constructive feedback you have given the applicant. Please detail the circumstances and the applicant’s response.

Emotional intelligence (EQ) skills such as self-awareness, empathy, communication and self-management are at the core of our community of leaders. Please provide one specific and compelling example to demonstrate the applicant’s emotional intelligence.
