Year One Description #

The first year at McDonough is filled with core courses designed to ready students for the challenges of their academic and professional career. Broken into two semesters, students are allowed to attend elective courses first in the spring term. During the spring term, a 3 credit Intensive Learning Experiences are also possible choices

Year Two Description #

The Second year allows students a more flexible schedule where they can select elective courses from over 70 choices. During Fall break, students have the potential to attend career week where they can network and further their professional skills.

Program Strengths #

MBA Certificates: Motivated students who want to expand their academic and repertoire can register for an MBA certificate. These certificates allow students to focus their studies on their passions and participate in a curriculum that sets them up for a career in the field of their preference.

ITreks: International Treks at McDonough give students a hands-on international experience. Traveling globally means students can network with alumni and fellow students as they engage with different cultures. These are student run trips which compliment the Global Business Experience also offered by McDonough. Previous destinations include Colombia, Israel and Mexico.

Reena Aggarwal

Professor Aggarwal is the Robert E. McDOnough Professor of Finance and Director for the Georgetown Center for Financial Markets and policy. Her research interests include global finance markets, capital raising, initial public offerings, initial coin offerings, FinTech, and more. She has received numerous awards, including BlackRock National Association of Corporate Directors Award. She received her MMS from Birla Institute of Technology and Science and her PhD from University of Maryland College Park.

Charles J Skuba

Professor Skuba is Professor of Practice and Senior Associate Dean for the Executive Custom Programs. He has received the professor of the year student choice award in 2015, 2014, 2013, and 2010. He worked professionally as chief of staff market access and compliance for the US department of Commerce, international trade administration. He received his MBA from George Washington University and his BSFS from Georgetown University.

Essay Description

Applicants must respond to one of the three options. Essays are a maximum of 500 words in length.

Essay Option One – Principled Leadership: Georgetown McDonough places a strong emphasis on principled leadership, providing both curricular and co-curricular opportunities to strengthen your leadership skills. Describe a time when you have led a team in a professional environment to implement a new idea or process. What leadership characteristics did you utilize? What could you have done to be more effective? And most importantly, what skills will you be able to bring to the teams you lead at McDonough?

​Essay Option Two – Hoyas for the Common Good: Georgetown McDonough embodies the ethos that people and organizations can and should contribute to the greater good. The admissions committee would like to better understand how you have demonstrated these values during uniquely challenging times. Describe a time where you have put the needs of others ahead of your own or ahead of the bottom line. We look forward to learning more about the challenge you faced, what unique characteristics you brought to that scenario, and what you learned from it.

Essay Option Three – Personal Brand: Think of a business leader or role model you admire or aspire to be. What are the defining characteristics of his or her personal brand that you see in yourself? Give an example of how you have been able to emulate these characteristics in your professional career and how your personal brand will enrich the McDonough community.

Optional Essay: Please provide any information you would like to add to your application that you have not otherwise included (500 words or fewer).

Video Essay: these essays are a minute in length and are meant for applicants to describe what they believe are their most compelling aspects.


One recommendation is required as part of the process. A recommender should be an individual who has experience with the individual in a professional setting and can speak to their strengths.
