Peter Allen 

Peter’s interests lie in strategic management which he currently teaches across the MBA, MA and undergraduate programmes of the School. Peter joined the Business School in 1991 and his past experience includes corporate planning within the steel industry and international management consultancy. He is currently the academic director for Durham’s MBA programmes in the Caribbean and Germany. In addition to being an MBA programme director, Peter is the module leader for MA and undergraduate courses in Strategy, International Strategic Management and Strategy and International Business.

Joanna Berry

As well as Associate Professor (Entrepreneurship) at Durham University Business School, Joanna is Director (Business, Enterprise and Innovation) of Durham University’s Durham Energy Institute (“DEI”). She is Winner of the Durham University Enhancing Learning and Teaching: Digital and Online Learning Award 2019-20. Her current research and teaching interests encompass Problem Based Learning, innovation, entrepreneurship, big data, ageing and health and the digital/creative industries. She has a particular emphasis on supporting the ‘women in STEM’ agenda in a variety of ways. She works closely with the External Relations team and undertakes a wide variety of public and media activities on behalf of the School. 

Nick Ellis

Nick’s research focuses primarily on the discursive construction of managerial and professional identities in inter-organizational relationships and B2B marketing contexts. His publications embrace marketing and organization studies, with world-leading and internationally excellent papers in journals with high impact factors, e.g. Organization Studies, Human Relations, British Journal of Management, Industrial Marketing Management and Marketing Theory. Nick’s teaching has been consistently rated positively by students and peers; and recognized in global rankings. He has also held a series of major administrative responsibilities, including Head of Department roles.

MBA Program Brief Overview #

Students study 7 core modules, and select 5 elective modules which enables them to undertake more in-depth study of particular topics. This is followed by a 15,000 word dissertation or Business Project to allow students to carry out independent research and develop their skills in analysis and scholarly expression, using an appropriate theoretical framework.
